Disrupting the Energy Industry, This New Start Up is Saving Huge Money for Solar Buyers

This Unique Start Up is Loved by Homeowners, But Not by Everyone
They're named Smartly Solar. They believe in smart energy and smart consumers. The concept is simple. First, they pre-screen solar companies with a 23 point inspection system. When you get proposals through Smartly Solar, you know you're working with solar companies who have passed a tough inspection. Next, they assign a solar consultant to help customers make sense of the proposals. Said one homeowner, "It's like having a friend in the business."
Not all solar companies are happy. Some say Smartly Solar is forcing prices down, and setting the bar too high, keeping lower quality solar businesses from soliciting homeowners with telemarketing or even knocking on their front door. Smartly Solar stands by their 23 point inspection and says "Some of those companies shouldn't even be in business because they lack proper licensing and insurance." Adding to that, Smartly Solar says "We're here for the homeowners, not the solar companies."
Smartly Solar says they're paid a small commission, no matter what solar company the homeowner chooses, and that's what keeps Smarty Solar unbiased.
In a ground-breaking study, the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) found that buyers who get multiple quotes save 10% or more. Homeowners who get 3 proposals stand to save $5,000 to $10,000.
The same study also found that large installers (1,000 jobs per year) charge more than smaller installers.

According to Smartly Solar, "Bigger isn't the same as better. At the same time, the cheapest quote isn't always the best. It's a balancing act between value, equipment, and company reputation. That's why we provide a solar consultant, to help put things in perspective."
